Multi-day: Nukan Kungun + nature camps
Guide updated · verify Parks SA the morning you go
Longer Nukan Kungun-style plan with intermediate nature camping permits where allowed. Strict self-sufficiency, booking rules, leave-no-trace and a real reverse or exit plan.

Only if your group is already comfortable with remote lagoon-flat walking, heat management and multi-day packing. Nature camping is a per-person style permit product on the Parks SA booking system — [VERIFY] rules, locations and what “nature camp” means for your dates.
PLB or sat messenger is a sensible planning note — not a substitute for telling someone your plan. Patchy mobile coverage is normal in low-lying country.
This is not the one-day icons plan and not a casual “see how far we get.” Book every night legally. Free day entry does not unlock free multi-day camping.
Fire: no firewood collection; campground solid-fuel seasonal bans and Total Fire Ban days still matter for cookers and camp discipline. Check CFS and the NPWS fire-restrictions PDF before you leave.
Track status, fees, fire bans, beach access and weather change — verify on Parks SA and CFS before you leave, then use the timeline below as a planning skeleton only. Free day entry and paid camping are separate official products — never merge them. This site does not show live closures.

Planning (1–2 weeks out)
Permits, water math, exit plan
Book every night legally on Parks SA. Calculate water for heat days with margin. Map bail-out road access. Screenshot maps offline. Leave a written plan with a contact outside the park. Decide who carries the PLB/sat messenger and how you call for help if needed.
Night before
Weather and fire check
CFS, Parks SA alerts, wind and heat. If conditions are wrong, delay — the corridor will still be there. Pack cookers that match fire rules for your dates.
On trail
Corridor discipline
Stay on designated routes. No firewood collection. Gas/liquid cookers subject to fire bans. Turn back early if weather or feet fail. Overnight only where booked. Take all rubbish out.
Exit day
Finish clean
Leave sites as found. Confirm shuttle or reverse logistics before anyone is exhausted. Rehydrate and rest before long sealed-road driving.

- Leave an itinerary with a contact outside the park.
- Confirm both trailhead and exit road status before you commit.
Skip if short on time / energy
- First-time park visitors without overnight experience
- Groups without a legal booking for every night
- Peak summer heat without heat experience
- Stacking Younghusband beach 4WD onto the same multi-day clock
